2003 Porche Boxter S does 0-60 in 5.6sec and 1/4 in 14.1
1997 m3 does 0-60 in 5.5 and 1/4 in 14.0
2002 m3 does 0-60 in 4.7 and 1/4 in 13.3

If your driving an e36 you should win statistically but the .1 sec all comes down to the drivers skill to be able to take off and shift at the right places.

Thanks for the info. I have and '04 M3, so the stats are in my favor.....awesome! By the way, speaking of driver's skill, at what RPM's (in each gear) do the M3's make the max power?

You should be able to take him somewhat easily, you have almost a full second over his 0-60 time. I have taken Boxster S's in my G35C so I think you should definitely be able to take him. Max power is at 7,900rpm's but just do redline shifts and you'll be fine.

I have beaten Boxters on the Autobahn almost routinely in my 530i.....M3? can't believe you would even ask such a silly question. I said Boxter...not the S type. If I beat a normal Boxter in my 530i then an M3 shouldn't even have to push itself to smoke the S series. Freaking worthless pieces of shit if you ask me. Another one of Porches production mistakes (914, 924, 944)

I completely disagree. The Porsche boxter has numerous reviews for being an exceptionally well handling and well built car. If speed is all that matters, then BMW is far behind a lot of competitors.

Excellent point. The Boxster IS one of the greatest handling cars on the road and has been for years....remember that the Boxster came out years before the Z4 and it STILL handles better than it. Granted the Boxster and Boxster S are far from the fastest cars out there for the $$, it is an extremely well-rounded performance machine.

Compared to the M3 its a girlie-mans Porsche.

Thanks for your replies gentlemen! The Autobahn, man I would love to get on that!!! However, aren't they really strict in Germany as far as modifying your vehicle...supercharger, turbo, etc...? (As they should be!) Anyway, I have 1900 miles on my M3 now, so we are getting her broken in. Soon I will be ready to race my buddy in his Boxster S and I will post the outcome here. I am confident from all of your inputs that the day we race will be a sad day for him, LOL!!!!

The Boxter S compares more closely to the 330i or 330Ci. The standard Boxer compares with the 325.

The Porsche 911 in on par with the M3.

Good Luck !, but you wont need it, just step on the pedal.

I've owned a standard boxster and while I was happy with the car I have to agree with some people on this board that it is a "girlie" porsche. I currently own a 04 911 which I purchased after I traded in my 02 M3...I absolutely love the 911 but I do think the boxster is a little bit overrated. I also think the M3 is "approaching" the 911's performance but I have to tell you the 911 hands the M3 it's ass on the twisties. The handling limits on the 911 are just rediculous...not taking away from the M of course but the M3 is just not in the same league when it comes to handling fast sharp turns. It's just a little bit on the heavy side to keep up with the porsche....but with that said I would chose the M over the boxster anyday of the week.

Well said and I concur. Having driven my M roadster and a Boxster S at a driving school, I will stick with the M roadster, not that they are not close I just felt the roadster had a bit more torque and handling.

That's true but the M Roadster is a super duper raw roadster. The M Roadster, the M Coupe, and the M3 are true definitions of what BMW is really all about.

I don't consider the Boxster/Boxster S to be a "poor man's Porsche" or a "girlie Porsche" because Porsche certainly doesn't think so.

911's are awsome !!! agree, they do really kick it at the track, I am so excited about the new 997's, back to the body style I like !! I may be visiting this model in the future if BMW keeps adding unwanted Butt parts and wacked out angles to their new styles.
