My brother has one (911) & yes I beat him 0-60 & 0-100, at the track we havent went at it, but the 911's do very well, as do the M3's.

I am just afraid Bangle is going to "uglyify" the new 3's, so I have my feeler gauge out for a different car company in the future. Porsche is one of them.

Look at Porsche and Audi, they are both great companies that care largely about the driving experience. Personally, I'm holding my breath for the next M3. I skipped out on BMW by going with the G35C (leased for 3 years), and I don't regret it at all, but I'm NOT doing that again.

If money wasn't an issue, most of us would probably be driving a Porsche TT or GT3. So as always in life, compromises are required, and the M3 is not a bad fall back choice.
The Boxster S would beat an M3 in an autocross event, but in straight line acceleration, it's no contest.

The Porsche Boxter is a great car and it has enabled the company to make such wonderful cars as the 911 GT3-RS because, in reality, the Boxter got Porsche out of absolute financial s***.

the boxster is a poor man's porsche.
just as the 3 series is a poor man's bmw.

the boxster sells the most...it makes money for porsche.
who then uses that money to make things like the GT

same as bmw...they sell thousands of 3 series to posers
who want the brand name (and over pay too) using that
income to build awesome cars like the ///m 's

ive participated in many autox events, and rarely does a boxster s have a better time than an e46 m3. not sure if you are an active autox participant...just my observations.

regarding your tt and gt3 comment....you might be surprised to find out that an s52 m coupe managed to beat a 996 gt2 at an scca autox (nationals) event as well. money not an issue, i skip the porsche. i do praise them for building the gt3 though...need those NA beasts out there

"Skip the Porsche"?...Have YOU really driven a 996?...somehow I truly doubt it...It's very easy to disregard a car that sounds like you know nothing about. If you ask any real Porsche enthusiast why they love 911s so much they will all tell you the same thing....we buy them for the overall "experience" not just straight speed. The 911 is the best overall daily driver sportscar in the world. If all your really interested in is straight speed then go buy a Z06..

Better yet go 997, back to the Porche body style I always loved.

please show me where i said anything about straight line speed. i have driven a 993...not a 996. i respect them, but i would not trade my current car for one.

fyi...the z06 is not just about straight line speed and is truly the best performance bargain out there. but like you said, its easy to disregard a car that you know nothing about. if you ask any real z06 enthusiast why they love z06's so much they will all tell you the same thing...we buy them for the overall "experience" not just straight speed.

I'm not knocking the ZO6...and yes I have driven one..but how can you comment a car you've never driven? I used to think 911s were all hype and overrated...until I actually drove and purchased one. I'm on my second 996 and love the car....... however, it irks me to no end when someone claims the 996 is overrated because it doesn't have 9000hp and it doesn't top 200mph. They(people who actually believe this....such as yourself) don't understand that there is more to a sportscar than just speed..and I'm talking from experience here..You generally get what you pay for...with that said the 911 is leagues better than the ZO6 when it comes to build quality, refinement, chassis, shifter, and overall steering feel than the ZO6. The Vette is a great bang for your buck sportscar...but after awhile the drive in that car gets tiresome and even gruling. The car begins to feel like a tired video game after long trips...The 911 always feels special..you never get tired of it...the bottom line that you have to learn about sportscars is don't judge a car based on hp and skidpad alone....the 911 is a very exspensive car that has been around for 40+ years....you don't last that long with really very little change in the basic design of the car if you aren't producing something special and unique....Vettes have gone through signifgant changes over the years..while chevy has "changed" the Vette...Porsche has "evolved" the 911.

Well Mr. Wizard...you are strangely defensive about that 911 of yours. I didnt say the 996 was overrated, in fact, i said i respect them. that said, if money was no object, I WOULD NOT trade my current car for one. my car doesnt have 900 hp nor does it top 200 mph...yet i am 100% content with it because as you said...it always feels special..i never get tired of it..the bottom line is i dont judge a car based on hp and skidpad alone.

what you need to learn is there are cars other than your beloved 911 which deliver these attributes. i am the first to acknowledge the fact that you shouldnt love a car for the "numbers" only as you will always be wanting something more. love the car for the emotion it inspires and satisfaction it gives.

dont judge what i know or dont know about sports cars. you dont know what i drive, or what i have driven.

if evolution is truly better than revolution...you must think the carrera gt or enzo are not REAL sports cars.

i also find it funny that you "irk" yourself [hah]

I don't think there is much of an "experience" to a Z06. Audi, BMW, and Porsche are pretty much the only car companies in which their vehicles actually make you feel good about pushing them. Also, their vehicle-driver communication are second to none. The Z06 is certainly a superb performance car especially for the price, but I'd still rather have an M3. The M3 is a driver's car from the ground up, offers good luxury for daily driving, and is much safer than the Corvette.
