49 years old and retired! I don't do anything I don't want to...well I have to pay taxes!
Good for you! I think I remember that you worked in law enforcement? There was a really asinine editorial/article in the local newspaper making a big deal about law enforcement retirees that collect full retirement and get hired into private industry. They were implying that it was somehow immoral to collect a full government retirement and also go back to work for money. What a crock! Anybody who spends 25 - 30 years risking their life in law enforcement deserves to do whatever they want - relax, travel, work, whatever - when they retire! The newspaper got blasted with letters to the editor.

I'll admit that I am biased. My brother in law recently retired from law enforcement. He has 2 kids in college, a third in a few years, so he decided to work for the DOD as a background investigator.

Kirby,
Thanks! I spent time in both the legal and law enforcement fields. Unfortunately I had to take a medical retirement as a childhood disease has now developed into something that prohibits my working.

I believe that anyone in any field who earns a retirement as outlined by their retirement guidelines retires, and then decides to work on a second retirement is wise and more power to them. I was fortunate that I had decided early in my careers to join three retirement systems (2-voluntary) and thus can afford to continue in the life style that I am use to. Besides my wife is a federal employee who does very well is the GS range! [headbang]

I'm in college and major in Landscape Architecture at Louisiana State University. It's quite a bit more than just planting trees. It's awesome and I love it. It might take me 6 years to get out of school, but hey, I have a good time in and out of class, so it's all good. Plus, I don't really have any tests (except my basic liberal arts classes). I just have projects. So when all my friends are busy studying, I'm out partying and having a good time.

This summer I'm going to be living in Gulf Shores, Alabama and I'll be a waiter at Ruby Tuesdays. I'm pumped. I love the beach. I'll be making a good amount of money, plus I can get off work and go chill on the beach with a cooler of beer. Life can't get much better for a 19 year old.

I'm a mechanical engineer. I work for a company that focuses on oil recovery equipment. I am technical services manager over a small product line. I've been in the oil industry off and on for about 7 yrs.

what type of art? there are types of stuff that i think i couldnt handle as a career, like actual hand drawn animation (frame by frame), it drives most people insane, you'd really have to love what you do to have a career in art. theres a lot of students who end up leaving after a year finding out that they weren't up to doing it for a living.

Sketch, that's awesome man... My best friend is in graphic arts - currently working on a few projects for a Ps3 console. I've always had a passion for art - through high school I probably had 3 or 4 hundred stick-man sketches/strips (sports, action, etc). Aside from a class here or there, I figure one day I'll really get back into it. I work in the IT field currently, as does everyone & their mother... but it pays the bills [:D].

I'm a farmer. Well, actually I'm the IT/IS manager for a farming company in Central CA (2 hours south of Modesto next time you're in town Kriby), which helps pay for my farming habit.

Any of you other IT people out there good with Cisco routers? I know just enough to be dangerous, and could use a little help configuring a 1700 to terminate an IPSEC VPN from a bunch of 831's. If anyone wants to help, I'll email details.

I'm in the same boat - I know enough about Cisco IOS to be dangerous, pretty much limited to the PIX 506 - firewall to firewall tunneling and VPN client. If the others can't help, have you tried the Cisco Web site? They have a ton of config examples (some are clear and some are totally confusing, a few are just wrong).
