I said I would not do this but I received a couple of PMs and a few direct email messages and thought I would drop a quick note. I take full responsibility for being out of control and out of line. Voluntarily leaving has nothing to do with being pushed over the edge or antichrist views (I am hardly the one to ask with my surface knowledge of the various religions).

Leaving is the correct and fair thing to do. It is what I have decided and is nothing more than a personal decision.

Sharon is now reportedly having the knees shot out of innocent Palestinians and leaving them to die in the streets, and, well we know what the other side is doing.
Give me a break, where did you hear this nonsense, al Jazeera?

People always demonize Sharon, forgetting the fact that Arafat
walked away from a country in 2000, with Ehud Barak, and instead
started a war against wedding parties, commuter busses, crowded
restaurants, holiday dinners, etc.

Looks like I am late to the party.

Well, Brian has elected to go.

I can't say I'll miss someone who equates terrorist states with democracies,
and reads fringe lunatic websites (counterpunch.org).

The Mideast is a complex subject, hence it is almost always misreported
by Western media, and allows uninformed people to become swayed by
anti-Western propaganda (see: counterpunch.org).

dido, well said. a lot of people, my self included, make assumptions on what we read and here on the news, and papers, which arent always accurate...about a messed up complex country/region, and you have kaos with the media, and kaos between people. so much bashing against Bush, his administration, now Rumsfeld, war supporters etc....it will never end.

Ok guys I saw the full beheading video today at a customer I was visiting. The sound was about 5 seconds ahead of the screening. It was the most horrific, well I dont think that word even describes it accurately, I was speechless. Yes, I have thought about it all day and should not of watched. This is the first time in my life I have actually seen true evil and not just heard about it.

Is it really that simple to you?

keep in mind that i do not associate myself with any political party. but what bugs me is that so many people can freak out about prisoners being stripped down and humiliated (which is very wrong) and then not care NEARLY as much about a man being beheaded. its sick that people will go as far as voting for a president, only to later not support him to this degree.

The media still refuse to show the photos.

Where it not for the Internet, no one would even know what
happened to Nicholas, since the media are not even describing
the events.

I have watched the video. It made me very angry. It shows
the nature of the enemy we are dealing with.

I have a text description I can post for those unwilling to watch
the video. Let me know if you want me to post, and if it is OK to
do so.

I think people should know what happened to Nicholas Berg.

(I will add that I also considered myself an "independent" before
Sept 11th. I sure was naive to think that there were no fundemental
differences. One side believes we are at war, the other does not. I
believe we are clearly at war.)

If the US wanted 'cheap oil,' it would have simply lobbied for the UN
to eliminate their sanctions placed against Saddam's regime for his
failure to comply with his disarmament agreements (Resolution 687,
among others).

Today, after the 'war for oil' gasoline costs $4.00 a gallon in California.

So much for the 'war for oil' theory...

I agree. If it was a war for oil, we should be seeing at least stable prices, if not cheaper prices. It looks as though the surprise move in the oil market may be made by Libya. With oil prices high, Kadafi smells money and seems very willing now to "toe the line" so he can sell oil to the US.

I don’t get involved in political discussions, but I will say that 100% of the news is NOT always 100% of the truth.
?????100% of the news is 99.9% propaganda. Our media system caters to "war mongers" which is about 99% of our population. Humans are sadistic like that. On any given day 5000 babies are born in the U.S. Is that a new worthy event? Should be! No, we want to hear about death, blood and evil, even if we don't want to hear about it, we still watch it. Why??? who knows ask Freud. We all like stories that get our "sore spots" No one likes to admit it...but it is the case.[ohcrap]

gas prices in oregon are expected to reach $3.20 for regular unleaded this summer. I don't even want to think about California. So yes, if this war was for oil, then the prices would be stable. I have watched them go up for the last 2 months..already at $2.37.
