I like those new headlights too. But many in the traditional Corvette community are apalled by the change. They think it is blasphemy that a Corvette doesn't have pop-up headlights.

Hmmmm....... sounds like the bimmer community when the new 5 and 7 came out........

The Very first Vette didnt have pop-up headlights, so the new design is actually more traditional. White convertable with red vinyl interior, the Blue Streak in line six motor and a 2 speed automatic tranny, AM radio and Heater/AC were optional, and no windows, just the windsheild. That is the First Vette.

All the Corvette fans who hate the lack of pop-up headlights are straight up dumb. As popboyis stated, the original Corvette didn't even have that feature, and the pop-up headlights cause so much wind resistance at high speeds. So to all the people who miss that feature: the new C6 headlights look better, function better, and will last longer (pop-up headlight motors always die over time)....screw "tradition".

I tend to agree - those pop-up healight lovers probably love Gold chains and cant let go of the 80's.

I have a new found love when it comes to cars like the vette which are all about the numbers.

Available with a 300 brake horsepower supercharged civic type-r engine, RWD, and it weighs half a ton. So yea, that's 3.3 pounds per horsepower. 0 - 60 in 2.9 seconds.

I'm going to kill my host with this but oh well :-D

Cool toy, almost Formula 1 :) it was funny to see that dude's face during acceleration. Want even more fun? - buy a jet fighter. People who have flown that things saying that driving all those supercars does not come even close :)

We don't have and never see anything like that in the US. We only have huge suv's that look stupid and run over nice cars.
lol, that was first thing that came to my mind when I saw that toy - driving this Atom on highway and some SUV just runs over you :) But on the other hand the gasoline in America is much cheaper than in Europe. Also, I saw lots of BMW and MBs only in Germany itself, the rest of Europe drives mostly some sucky ultra-compact cars like Fiat Punto, the standard of living is generally lower there.

this is true, they have 95 and 98 octane fuel there, I never saw anything higher than 92 in states.
I think they use the RON scale and in US they use MON or an average of MON and RON (something to that effect anyway). So 94/95 Octane in the US is about the same as 98 RON i'm led to believe. So the difference actually isn't all that great.

Cheers

Re formulated fuel has nothing to do with the octane rating. It is crappy fuel that is "better for the enviroment" and ruins engines, I.E. - Nikasil V-8 engine blocks in E34s, eats at the cylinder walls. Ford has been having issues with fuel injectors for the past few years, it has been traced back to bad fuel. irritates the hell outta me. stupid tree huggers and getting their "enviromentally friendly fuel", i get ahold of one of them that put that into action and ill go "enviromentally friendly" on their ass.

you are right, read this : http://www.btinternet.com/~madmole/Reference/RONMONPON.html

what a good news! now I know that I'm using European 95 octane gasolin in my car :) I'm from Europe originally and all this time in US I was under impression that high octane fuel is not available here, but 95 is considered damn good fuel where I'm from

Unfortunately, the environment is infinitely more important than our cars and it's only fitting that the country which consumes a quarter of the world's oil is the target of the "stupid tree huggers".

I have to agree. I would rather take issue with car manufacturers. Blaming the fuel for damages to the engine components is an excuse to hide POOR DESIGN AND FINANCIAL/MARKETING DECISIONS. For example, had BMW done proper research and testing, they would have known about the potential Nikasil problem.

In the 70s, they fought emission controls with tens of millions $$$ of political money. If they had invested that money in real R&D into improving engine design we would be better off today. Instead they gave us bolt on modifications, 27 miles of vacuum tubing, control valves, and layer after layer of ineffective Air injectors, PCV Valves, vapor recovery cannisters, cat convertors, THERMAC, and all that other crap.

I just read that the new C6 Z06 warranty specifically ALLOWS amateur weekend racing, like autocross, driver events, etc. That is pretty cool. Almost all other manufacturers reserve the right to deny warranty claims if the car has been used in any competition. BMW is somewhere in the middle - apparently they allow BMWCCA events but that's it.
